GOVERNMENT SERVICES The City of Del Rio has a council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of six councilmen serving four-year terms and a mayor serving a two-year term. The city manager, who is appointed, serves as the chief administrative officer. The city provides fire protection throughout the county with 51full-time and 13 volunteer firefighting personnel. Law enforcement within the city is provided by 100 full-time police; and within the county, by a sheriff and 51full-time and volunteer deputies. The GEO Correctional Facility employs 198 people. The city operates the Del Rio International Airport, and owns the International Bridge linking Del Rio with Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. The city collects a 1.5%sales tax; the county collects .50% sales tax in addition to the state's sales tax of 6.75%. UTILITIES The city owns and operates its own water, sewer, and natural gas systems. TELEPHONE - Verizon Rates can be quoted according to services and equipment required by customer. "Full-service" is provided including the most modern technology available in both voice and data transmissions as well as mobile telephone service. Cellular telephone service is now available through Voicestream Wireless, Southwestern Bell and United States Cellular. T.V.
