Del Rio Area Development Foundation

The Del Rio Area Development Foundation was incorporated in 1962.  The purpose was to acquire land for industrial use in the effort to provide jobs for the Del Rio area.  Their by-laws were adopted in 1962.

 

The original officers were B.C. Kindel, President; John L. Dodson, Vice-President and Jack Jones, Secretary-Treasurer.

 

Through the sale of voting shares at $500 each, the Foundation raised the money to purchase its initial tract of 50.7 acres.   First sale of land in Park I, was ten acres in 1962 to Samuel Lobsitz Associated Wool Processors of Texas, Inc. for a wool scouring plant.

 

In 1980, with available sites becoming limited, the Foundation, under President J.Tom Graham,  purchased 50 acres from the Fawcett and Finegan families adjacent to the original tract.  The first sales from that tract were four acres to Basse Truck Lines and ten acres to the Val Verde County Industrial Development Corp. for R.G. Barry Corp.

 

In 1986, the Foundation purchased 34.50 acres to begin Park III.  Five acres were sold to Yellow Freight in 1989, six acres to Arkansas Freightways (now American Freightways) in 1991 and two acres to Liborio Hinijosa for an ostrich hatchery in 1993 (now closed and for sale)  In 1998, Bric McMann, a manufacturer of apparel, bought 5.041 acres for their new facility which has yet to begin construction. The current president of the ADF is Frank H. Larson.
